After the mid-18th century conquer of Silesia, in the 19th century hundreds of thousands of priceless original manuscripts, books and documents were robbed from Catholic monasteries of Silesia and brought here by order of Prussian rulers to become in the mid-20th century a "shield" for
the Headquaters of the German Stronghold 'Festung Breslau' located in the basement of the building in the last days of Prussian occupation of Wroclaw and all Silesia. Most of the cultural treasures of Europe stored in the University Library in Breslau parished in fire.
